Life Posting – Entry 2

We may fall down, but eventually someone has to get up, wipe the dirt off their jeans and get going again.

Life Posting – Entry 1

4/6/10 4:10 PM – I just have this warm, overwhelming outlook on life right now. Think positive. Also remember that you can love what you do, but if you don’t take time out for yourself, take breaks and get out there and enjoy the sunshine, others will suffer your stresses.

Prayer from my dad’s service.

Sermon by Bill Ivey.  Childhood friend of my dads.  Recited the Confederate Soldier’s Prayer at the service.

Confederate Soldier’s Prayer

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve,
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked God for health, that I might do greater things,
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.

I asked for riches, that I might be happy,
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men,
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life,
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I asked for
– but everything I had hoped for.

Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am among men, most richly blessed.

Found on the body of a Southern soldier
1861-1865

A story he also told was about a man who lived in New York, who wanted to work on a ranch in Texas.  When he applied for the job, he was asked what qualifications he had, the only thing he could say was, I sleep well on a stormy night.

Dear Dad,

It’s been a while since I have talked to you on the phone and heard something funny and sarcastic.  I have to say I think I inherited your sense of humor.  Know one memory sticks out where we used to drive to the ABC liquor store for beer “for you” and candy bars for me, mom, and Karin.  Or when you took me to Toys R’ Us and bought me a Pink Panther puppet, guess you felt bad because Cherie picked out my Christmas present one year, an ugly jumpsuit out of some old woman’s mail catalogue.  I still have that puppet, the jumpsuit, I’m afraid that’s gone.

I know you tried really hard to stay close to me and Karin and keep in touch and visit when you could.  I think you did everything you could and I know you love us a lot.

There’s a lot of things I wish I had done or could have seen you more often.  I wish I could be there right now through this tough time.  Please know that even though I’m 600 miles away, I think about you all the time and try to imagine sitting next to you in the hospital trying to keep you from laughing and finding out that you might be able to go home and recover.  I try to remember how funny you were before you got sick.  I am afraid to see what this cancer has done to you, I just want to remember you the way you were, sitting in a chair in your living room while me and Karin, Rhianna and Cece are visiting.  Then of course planning to head out to eat.

Your laugh was always funny.  I can’t remember if you were laughing at something you said or if we said something funny.  What was it?

Just thought I would talk to you a little while.

Love,

Lisa

Miscellaneous Stuff

Definitions of Musings on the Web:

Today, recorded everything I did during the day including Ad hoc stuff.  So I think I might be getting the hang of this planning and note taking gig.  I have always had issues prioritizing my schedule so in hopes that writing down everything and time stamping work activities will trigger new stuff.  It’s easy for me to jump in and do something, but unfortunately I am usually in the middle of something really important when this happens.

So here’s my current trial:

Write notes including time and date, e.g., adhoc or unannounced calls regarding problems related to clients.  Record these on daily log sheet as a general reference.

The listy thing still in progress.  Guess just need to write down the activities and notes for the day then go back and review it daily to see if anything needs to be done and/or calendared.

Magazine Art Project

SCAN0200

Created on 12/06/09 from the wee hours of the morning until about 11 a.m.

I have been putting off this project for awhile.  I used three magazines to make it, (1) Martha Stewart Living and (2) Real Simple.  I am not surprised that I found most of my clippings in Martha Stewart’s magazine.  My plan was to search, cut and glue these magazine clippings and stay consumed and pass the time.  It started to get really difficult to find foods to fill in all the gaps.  Thankfully after 3 hours or more, I finished!  I am pretty excited about it.

Unconventional but Awesome Chicken Salad

6-8 Tyson Chicken Tenderloins (cooked, cooled and cut up)
1 handful of chopped walnuts (toast these at 350 while you process the ingredients below)
1/3 cup of red seedless grapes, chopped

1) In the food processor, Dump all the below in and pulse until smooth.
Nearly a 1/2 cup of Hellman’s Light mayonnaise
Two heaping tablespoons or more Whole or Lowfat Plain Yogurt
1 1/2 capfuls of lime juice
Dash or two of salt and pepper
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 celery stalk cut up
2) Add chicken to the food processor and pulse to desired texture.
3) Put chicken salad in a bowl.
4) Add the chopped grapes and walnuts, add another dash of salt and pepper, and a dash of paprika,

Serve bread, crackers.  Or just eat it with a spoon.

I used a Ninja master prep to make this but think the food processor or your bare hands would work just as well.

Note to Self

This is currently a personal project to get me motivated. I am thinking about different topics to post.
